Foil-Lined Promotional Insulated Bags

There is a real place for a light, cheap, foil-lined bag: conference giveaways, in-store promotions, event handouts and sampling programmes where the bag has to carry something cool across a car park and then live in a cupboard. We make plenty of them, and the only thing we do differently is tell you what you are getting.

A promotional insulated bag is typically a non-woven polypropylene shell with a foil laminate liner and either no foam or a thin foam layer of 2mm or so. It is a radiant barrier with a handle. It will keep a sandwich and a can cool for the walk to the car, and it will not keep a shop frozen for an hour, and that is fine as long as nobody in the room believed otherwise when the order was placed.

Where we do push back is on the print. Non-woven PP has a low melt point, so a normal cure temperature warps the face and a hot press crushes the panel flat. These are printed with a low-temperature cure and a light press, and a large solid coverage area is the one design choice most likely to cause trouble — we will show you at mockup rather than after the run.

Is this the same as your grocery tote?

No, and the difference is the foam. A promotional bag is usually a foil-lined non-woven shell with little or no closed-cell foam; a grocery tote carries a stated foam thickness, typically 4mm to 8mm, and feels completely different in the hand. Both are legitimate products. We will quote either, and we will tell you which one you are looking at rather than letting a photograph decide.

Why did my last promotional bag come back with a wrinkled print?

Almost certainly heat. Non-woven polypropylene starts to distort well below the temperature a standard cure or press uses, so the face shrinks unevenly under a large solid and the print wrinkles with it. The fix is a lower cure temperature with a longer dwell and less press pressure, and sometimes breaking a heavy solid into a lighter design. We set this up as standard on PP faces.
